Every month, the same dance:
- Rent is due. Someone pays.
- You open your expense app.
- Add the expense. Set the split. Save.
- Repeat next month.
And if you forget? Suddenly your balance calculations are wrong, and you're digging through bank statements trying to figure out who owes what.
Splitorium's Recurring Expenses handles this automatically. Set it up once. Rent, utilities, Netflix, internet — they all split on schedule without you lifting a finger.
Automation means one less thing to remember. Your expenses track themselves.
What Are Recurring Expenses?
A Recurring Expense in Splitorium is a template that automatically creates real expenses on a schedule.
You define:
- The amount, description, and category
- Who pays and how it splits
- The frequency (daily, weekly, monthly, yearly)
- When it triggers (1st of month, every Tuesday, etc.)
Splitorium's server runs the schedule in the background. On the trigger date, it creates the actual expense — visible to everyone in the group, split exactly as you specified.
Supported Frequencies
Monthly Special: Last Day of Month
Some bills are due on the "last day of the month" — which varies (28, 29, 30, or 31). Splitorium has a special "Last day of month" option that handles this automatically.
How It Works Under the Hood
- You create a recurring expense template
- Splitorium calculates the next occurrence (e.g., February 1st)
- On that date, the server creates a real expense
- Everyone in the group sees it (and gets notified)
- The next occurrence is scheduled (March 1st)
- Repeat forever (or until you delete it)
This all happens on the server — you don't need the app open. The expense appears in everyone's group history automatically.

Smart Features You'll Love
Server-Side Execution
Expenses are created on the server, not on your device. Even if you don't open the app for a month, your recurring expenses still fire on schedule.
Catch-Up Logic
If something prevents an expense from creating (rare server downtime), it catches up automatically when systems recover.
Membership Protection
Group members can't leave if they're part of an active recurring expense. This prevents situations where recurring splits break because someone disappeared.
Edit or Cancel Anytime
Change the amount, split, or schedule. Or delete the recurring expense entirely. Past expenses stay in your history; only future ones are affected.
Common Questions
What if my rent amount changes?
Edit the recurring expense. Update the amount. Future expenses use the new amount; past expenses stay as-is.
Can I have multiple recurring expenses in one group?
Yes! Rent, utilities, internet, Netflix — each gets its own recurring expense.
What if I set up mid-month?
Use "Apply immediately" to create the first expense now. The next one will follow the schedule you set.
Does it work with uneven splits?
Absolutely. Percentage splits, weighted shares, exact amounts — whatever you configure for the recurring expense.
Automate Your Shared Bills
Stop manually adding the same expenses every month. Splitorium's Recurring Expenses handles it for you — automatically, on schedule, forever.
Set up once. Never think about it again.
